You know how you give the fruit cake you receive at Christmas from your Aunt Bertha to someone else? Well Lori’s Voice is guilty of the same thing. Only the thing we "re-gifted" was a beautiful handicap accessible van.
An anonymous donor recently donated to Lori’s Voice a nearly new handicapped accessible van that his family no longer needed. When you consider the value of such a gift is in the $40,000 - $50,000 range we were shocked by the generosity of the donor.
He had observed the work we do with special needs children and concluded that we would put this gift to work in a meaningful way. His only instruction was to re-gift it to a family that really needed it.
So we set about doing just that. The Board reviewed all of the families that had applied to us for assistance in purchasing a handicap equipped van. From that group we made the difficult decision of selecting one.
Not an easy choice or one we took lightly. This scale of gift is a game changer – a real life altering event - we were careful in our choice. I think we found the right family and decided to surprise the Dean family.
Giving a vehicle is a pretty big deal. FOX17 set them up for an "interview" and Clock Conversions (a provider of handicap adapted vehicles) let us use their facility. Our Board members, friends, some kids and grandkids were there to make the surprise complete.
Realizing they had a new van was quite the shock to Troy & Amy Dean and their children.
Clock then treated us all to a wonderful lunch and the Dean family drove away all smiles. Special thanks to FOX17, Clock Conversions and of course to the generous donor who made this all possible. It would be fun to do this every week!
